The Expectancy Factor

You can get anything and everything you want, become a remarkable success at any job or goal, just by putting three words to work.

And these words have surrounded you all the days of your life. You may have known them by their common titles - The Golden Rule, The Law of Attraction, the Strangest Secret. These are ages old. They are recorded in some form in every major philosophy or religious text. Deep thinkers have repeatedly discovered this concept and put it into their own words.

These three words are a hidden factor in all life and living - now and throughout history. If you look back over your own successes and failures, you can see living examples of where this influences your own life.

In its simplest form:

Expect and receive.

Too simple? Right. Here’s the background:

I’ve been studying this for the last half-century. Going through the classics to find answers to our current day problems. And the drive to find out what made people successful - and failures - led me through all sorts of adventures.

I committed to a study of the still-poplar classic self-improvement classics. Hundreds of books. I was half-way through my third decade of research when one day it hit me. I was distilling another dusty classic back to its basic principles, when I ran across this observation:

Everything I expected, believed in, and acted on then manifested to the exact degree of my expectations in that area. Every action I took – in full belief of receiving my expected results – then accomplished that desired result.I could see the results where I traced this down in my own life.

This explained my failures and successes. It also gave me a worry-less, peaceful life in the present.

So, I tested this. There is a poplar DVD movie called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. It, too, based both modern scientists' findings and ancient philosophical works. In that DVD, they also gave a lot of practical, workable ideas to try out.

I picked a simple one, where I started to expect that I had a good parking spot every time. Everywhere. It didn’t have to be “logical”, it didn't have to be proved in advance by the Scientific Method. I just arbitrarily put my full faith and belief that I’d always find a good parking spot anywhere I went. Regardless of traffic, time of day or week.

And it worked. It still works. Every time, every place I go.

Yeah, spooky.

Then I told my wife. And she began having similar results.

The results were real world. Anyone could prove this.

It tied all these classics together. They were all really saying the same thing in different ways.

So I began dusting off and upgrading everything else I was expecting. It became obvious - a low expectation means low results. I'd been reading about those who had high expectations and reinforced these as solid beliefs - they then found the inspired big and small actions they needed to take in order to enable that expectation to show up in actuality.

Even today, I see more and more of what I expect and fully believe as showing up in my life. Little ways and big.

I wrote all my research up as I went.

About a dozen books on the subject.

I knew this last discovery needed to be told. Only it was too simple to be swallowed wholesale without doing the homework of all these authors and testing this on your own life.

Writing this all up was another thing entirely. Where to start?

I began by assembling these dozen works  of mine to see if they could be distilled in some way - back to their elements.

And I found that they actually did follow my research path. I’d been telling all about my discoveries all along.

The funny thing is, my last books referred back to my first ones. And my writing style has improved over these 25 years of research and writing.

Reading them in their original order wasn’t the best way to go about it. My writing style had improved from a stuffy academic style up into our modern prose. Re-writing these would be boring, tedious work. Since they dealt only with evergreen principles, all I’d be doing was updating the writing style.

Meanwhile, I’d also aggregated other essays from other sages -- which had their own different writing styles -- but once you had the short idea about this Expectancy Factor laid out, then you could follow them along. Again, I didn’t need to reinvent the wheel when they’d already written these ideas up so well.

The answer: compile my earlier books into a thick anthology, but assemble them in reverse order. Then add in the key reference essays in its back. I was building a reference work. Something that could be skipped through and studied in any way you wanted. If I mentioned a certain book or author, you could then simply flip back to where they are included later.

The book needed to simply start with the most workable and accessible first.

So these opening words.

What you expect with full faith and belief, you receive.

Have fun with this. Go ahead and change your life into a remarkable success. Set start high goals and achieve them. Meanwhile living a peaceful and joy-filled life.

See you on the other side.
